Why your reality isn't real
And here is what I know about why your reality is not real.
Your brain receives an estimated 11 million bits of sensory information every second. It consciously processes about 40. The rest is filtered out.
That means everything you believe about your life, your potential, your limitations, is built on a tiny fraction of what is actually there. Your brain is not showing you the world. It is showing you your version. One shaped entirely by what it already expects to see.
You have heard of confirmation bias. Selective attention. Self-fulfilling prophecy. But here is what most people miss: those are not flaws in the system. They are the system. And the system can be reprogrammed.
But first you have to see it.
In Amsterdam, I did not. My brain filtered for validation. For evidence that I was enough. For reasons to keep performing. I did not notice, because that is what filters do. They feel like truth.
Then I moved to Madrid. And without the familiar, my filters became visible for the first time.
So I reset them. I told my brain to look for possibility instead. And just like when you buy a red car and suddenly see red cars everywhere, my brain did what brains do. It found exactly what I told it to look for.
What would change if you told your brain to look for opportunity instead of risk? For connection instead of judgment? For what is possible instead of what is missing?
Your reality is not fixed. It is filtered. And you get to choose the filter.
Have you ever noticed your reality shift, simply by choosing to see it differently?
